About Lake Martin
44,000 acre Lake Martin is among the largest man-made lakes in the nation. Developed in 1923 by Alabama Power on the Tallapoosa River, Martin Dam was completed in 1926. Today Lake Martin is surrounded by more than 750 miles of wooded shoreline.
Lake Martin is located in east central Alabama nestled in the southern Appalachian Mountains, surrounded by Tallapoosa, Elmore and Coosa counties, including the communities of Alexander City, Jackson’s Gap, Dadeville, Eclectic and Tallassee.
Lake Martin attracts visitors from all over the country. It is a destination for sports and recreation such as: fishing, boating, swimming, water skiing, tennis, camping and hiking. It is also well known as a destination for live-bait fishing, trolling, jigging, drifting and fly-fishing for everything from Bluegill Bream, Largemouth Bass and Stripers to spotted bass, catfish and Crappie. Year-round marinas dot the many fingers of Lake Martin.
